When Mars touched the Moon

You can clearly see Mars as a small distinct red dot next to the moon. In reality Mars is much larger than the moon.

It’s a winter day in February and for once it’s a clear sky. I looked up and came aware that Mars was going into a rare conjuction with the moon. I really didn’t have time nor have I planned to witness this. But I couldn’t lpass on this astronomical event. I could capture this in various ways since I have a few telescopes. lenses and cameras to chose from. I ended up with taking out a Sony A7ii with X3 Barlow with a Skywatcher Evostar 900 mm telescope.

Mars rising over the horisont. Of course I you stood on the moon’s dark side looking at Mars it would appear as a very bright red star. If you were standing at the day light side you might see it, but maybe no. I saw a film with Neil Armstrong discussing if it was possible to see any planets from the moon. The only thing he saw was the earth.
Mars touches the the moon mountain!
An early stage of the conjuction shot without the barlow. The evostar refractor is a very good telescope for moon imaging.

The settings I used for these photos was 800/1 Sec and ISO between 3200-6400, and it’s all single frames, so I did no stacking.
